5 Under $50: Rockin’ NYE Dresses

Taylor Swift knows how to shine

Taylor Swift knows how to shine

Sure, these dresses are cheap but you’ll look like a million bucks. They’re fun, flirty and sure to make you the life of the party this New Year’s Eve.

Too cold for bare legs? Stay warm by pairing any of these dresses with black opague tights (NOT sheer. Think sex pot, not streetwalker).

And to keep your look modern and sleek, toss on a shrunken tuxedo jacket instead of an outdated shawl or a bulky winter coat.

Cheers!

New Year’s Giveaway: Free faux fur hat

fauxfurhat

Fellow fashionistas:

Go Faux in 2010!

Follow the fashionable footsteps of celebs like Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron and ditch anything dead in your closet. Better yet, donate your fur items to your local women’s shelter where warm jackets and accessories are always needed. Your used furs will be put to good use without contributing to the industry.

Seriously, there are tons of fab cruelty-free alternatives that are equally as puffy, fluffy and fuzzy as the real thing so there’s no need to swaddle yourself in stinky skins. (Puffy, fluffy and fuzzy will thank you for it.)

Whew, it’s hard to stand on that soapbox while wearing heels…

The goods:

I’ll start one lucky reader off on the right track with this FREE faux fur hat that’s sure to become a staple of your winter wardrobe.

The rules:

WE HAVE A WINNER! Congrats, Melissa M. And thanks for going faux!

Good luck, ladies (and gents).

P.S. If you’d like to learn more about fur farms, click here. Beware, just like real fur, what you’ll see ain’t pretty, but it’s guaranteed to make you a more compassionate consumer.

Fashion Faux Pas: Mariah Carey

mariah-carey-435

Good night nurse, I’m holding my breath just looking at her.

Mariah Carey has some of the hardest working clothing in the business. Seriously, I think I can see her zipper sweating.

You know it takes at least three assistants to help her get out of those pants because there’s no way she’s able to shake (shake, shake, shake, shake) ‘em off herself.

Mariah, you’re the princess of pop. But you aren’t a size 2…and we LOVE you for that. Embrace your curves, woman! Celebrate them, don’t suffocate them in too-tight clothes that make you look like a stuffed sausage. It’s tough to be comfortable in your own skin, believe me – I get it. But let’s start with some comfortable clothes that are both flattering and age appropriate. She looks like she got stuck in a time warp.  In Newark.

Remember, Mariah – Forever 21 is a shop, not a mantra.
